A compaction factor apparatus is a laboratory instrument used to measure the workability of fresh concrete by determining the ratio of the weight of partially compacted concrete to the weight of fully compacted concrete of the same sample.
The compaction factor apparatus consists of two conical hoppers mounted above a cylindrical mould, arranged so that concrete dropped from the upper hopper falls into the lower hopper, and then into the mould below. The mould is filled without compaction (or with a standard low level of compaction), then weighed and compared with the weight of the same concrete fully compacted.
The ratio of the two weights gives the compaction factor, which is a direct indicator of the workability of the concrete. The test is used for concrete with maximum aggregate size up to 20 mm, and is widely used in laboratories and on major construction projects to verify mix design and consistency.
The apparatus is supplied complete with upper and lower hoppers, cylindrical mould, base frame, and accessories. It is fabricated from heavy-gauge steel with durable painted or coated finish for long service life.
J.R. Machinery India supplies compaction factor apparatus engineered for accurate, standards-compliant workability testing. Our apparatus features rigid steel construction, smooth hopper interiors, precise geometry, and stable base frames. Options are available for different sample sizes and configurations to suit specific laboratory and testing requirements.
