An agitator truck is a concrete transport vehicle fitted with a rotating drum that keeps pre-mixed concrete in a workable condition during transit. It receives concrete from a batching plant or mixer and delivers it to the placement site without segregation or setting.
The agitator truck (also known as a transit mixer or concrete agitator) carries freshly mixed concrete from the batching plant to the discharge point. The drum rotates slowly during transit, continuously agitating the mix to prevent segregation, setting, and loss of workability.
At the site, the drum rotation direction is reversed and the concrete is discharged through a chute. Discharge rate and placement position can be controlled by the operator, allowing accurate pouring into foundations, columns, slabs, and other structures.
